HYROX is a global fitness race held in arenas worldwide. Every race is identical: you run 1km, complete a functional workout station, run another 1km, repeat. Eight times. First to finish wins.
Unlike obstacle races or CrossFit competitions, HYROX is standardised: same format, same weights, same movements worldwide. That means your time in Vancouver is directly comparable to someone racing in London or New York. There's a leaderboard. There's a standard to beat.
It rewards exactly what zone6 trains: running endurance, functional strength, and the ability to perform when you're already breathing hard.
Weights vary by category (Open, Pro, Doubles, Mixed Doubles). Total race distance: ~10km running + 8 workout stations.
Ed and Justin don't just coach HYROX. They race it. That means your programming is built on actual race experience, not theory. When your coach has crossed that finish line themselves, the advice is different.
HYROX rewards a rare combination: the ability to run and lift when you're already deep in oxygen debt. zone6 programs specifically for that. Every training block builds the capacity you'll need on race day.
Every Saturday, the crew trains together at First Heat. You don't need a HYROX race on the calendar to show up. The sessions are open to everyone. The community keeps the standard high.
Our free weekly session. 75 minutes of expert-guided hybrid training. The same style of work you'll face in a HYROX race. Every Saturday, across Metro Vancouver.
A program built specifically for your race, your timeline, and your weaknesses. Weekly check-ins, nutrition targets, and direct access to coaches who have stood on the same start line.
No. Most people who train with us are preparing for their first race. The Saturday sessions are open to all fitness levels. You don't need to know what a SkiErg is on day one.
Most first-timers are race-ready in 12–20 weeks of structured training. It depends heavily on your current fitness base. If you're already active, 12 weeks is realistic. Starting from scratch, give yourself 16–20.
Weights vary by category. Open Men: 20kg sled, 32kg farmers carry, 10kg wall balls. Open Women: 15kg sled, 24kg farmers carry, 6kg wall balls. Pro categories are heavier. We'll coach you to the exact weights for your division.
No. It's one of the reasons the sport has grown so fast. The majority of participants are everyday athletes who want a measurable goal. Average Open finish times are around 80–90 minutes. It's designed to be completable, not just winnable.
HYROX runs events in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, and other major cities. Check the official HYROX website for the current race calendar. Ed and Justin compete regularly and can advise on which races to target.
